Digital Perm: Tony and Jackey vs. Beautybrick

I haven't been using that much hair products anymore, just the regular shampoo and conditioner combo. Apparently, if you dry a digipermed hair the right way, it would look as good as if you blowdry it with products. Comparison of the 2 most popular salons for digital perms after the photos. ^_^

Human Heart Nature Strengthening Shampoo + Conditioner
Dried by twisting and scrunching then fluffed a little

Dried the same way, no fluffing

Same products; not too much twisting and scrunching
The worst (straightest) my digipermed hair can be.

I've had my hair re-permed at Beautybrick in Jupiter Street last August 2011. There was several differences of note compared to my first digital perm in Tony and Jackey last March 2011:

Tony and Jackey
Cost: 4,500php (3000 for Loreal Digital Perm + 1500 treatment)
Hair Texture: Drier than normal. My hair did NOT feel healthy.
Convenience: Walk-in clients are very much accepted, and several branches are available.
Communication: Stylist was hard to talk to but tolerable; there was no translator available.
Maintenance:
  1. I was told not to wash my hair for 3 days or 72 hours.
  2. Too much conditioner and hair masques were needed, due to the dryness.
  3. No combing was allowed.
  4. Curls seem to hold longer throughout the day without products.

Beautybrick
Cost: 3,500php (minimum, since I have thin hair)
With additional treatment included? Yes.
Hair Texture: Very much softer. It's like my normal healthy hair, only with curls. ^_^
Convenience: You have to make an appointment with the single branch they have.
Communication: Mr. Shin, the stylist, showed a magazine and asked which style/length I would like. Although his English isn't that good, he has a lot of translators among his staff. Plus, he follows up his client's hair condition thru text after a week or so.
Maintenance:
  1. I was told not to wash my hair for 2 days or 48 hours.
  2. Hair feels softer even without additional products.
  3. Combing was encouraged, but with wide toothed combs.
  4. Curls seem to hold less throughout the day without products.
With the Bangs/Fringe area, T and J did it better, although it was difficult to maintain for me due the the bagsak (flat) nature of my hair.

Tips:
  • Not combing the curls actually make them last much longer, especially for girls with naturally straight hair.
  • Putting separate big hair clips on each side after twisting and scrunching, during drying, defines curls better.
  • Constant twisting and scrunching curls is all the maintainance you need, but it may look strange in public, so better do it in private =p
  • Shampoo only the hair parts near your scalp, and put conditioner only on the curls. This may prevent hair fall as well.
  • Better go to Beautybrick on a weekday, before lunch; preferrably 10AM if you don't want the hassle of too much customers and queues/lines.
  • You can have your hair re-permed every six months to maintain.

  2. Hi pooriin ^_^ I didn't notice which perm lasted longer. What mattered to me was how healthy my hair felt after the perm.

With Tony and Jackey, my hair felt like "walis"-like after. It was horribly dry :(

With Beautybrick (I just had my 2nd perm with them btw), my hair felt even healthier than before the perm ^_^
